How to Share the Strava Flyover

Page content

Yesterday I was playing with Strava Flyoveers and I tried to share the videos of flyovers but rather than sharing the video as I had wanted to do it shared a hyperlink to the activities that were already shared. I then tried to share via Instagram but the result was a pixelated mess with a line.

What is a Flyover?

A video flyover is a 3d video of the ride, hike or other sport that you have just completed in the same style as you see ahead of Tour De France Stages and others. It allows you to see the speed, altitude and landscape as a rider or hiker may see the view. Here is an example of a LeCercle Ride I participated in.

The easiest way to get a usable hyperlink is to go to the flyby, choose “share” and then select “whatsapp”. You can send yourself, or others the hyperlink and they will be able to see the desired flyby. On a computer it will display full screen. On a mobile phone it displays full screen as well.

Subscriber Option

This is available as a premium feature on Strava, but for free with Suunto. It works for rides that you have been on, since switching to the subscription model.

And Finally

We’re used to seeing flat maps of our bike rides and hikes. By visualising them in 3d with flyover options, either by Strava, Suunto or other we are able to get a better feel for the landscape we have been exploring. We get a sense of scale and effort.

And finally, I had to jump through hoops before I understood how to share flyover videos. It is not intuitive to use.
