You build up plenty of dust as you plow the fields at the moment. The drought continues, as does the desire for this pandemic to be over. For now, the downward trend continues so we could feel optimistic. I’m still optimistic than in two or three weeks recycling centres will go back to normal. At the moment recycling centres remind me of something else.

Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino is more of an experimental film exploring the manga genre. It’s got some interesting stylistic elements

An all time Al Pacino classic film. A drug lord builds his way to the top of the group but once he reaches the pinnacle he falls back down. 

Goodfellas

About a boy who grows into the Mafia and becomes one of the most people around. Shot in a more biographical style starring an all Italian cast to make a good film.

Once Upon a Time in China Box

This is a Hong Kong film starring Jet Li as Wong Fei-hun who is fighting for the rights of his people whom are being sent as slaves to California. At the same time he must save his Aunt from Chinese forces coming into conflict with the slave traders armed with firepower.

The One

In a world of Parallel universes each time a version of yourself is killed the remaining versions gain power. In this movie one particular version aims to become “The One"Watch Jet Li in a fight sequence against himself 

e Were Soldiers

Vietnam War film based on a book by Lt. Col. Harold Moore starring Mel Gibson. The film is about a group of soldiers whom are dropped in a location from which they draw heavy fire. They are aiming to survive as long as possible before re-enforcements may come to relieve them. Among the people there is a journalist and this character’s evolution throughout the film is a powerful element of the film. It’s a good film which I would recommend to anyone whom likes the Genre

Amelie

Amelie as it is called in England but “Le Fabuleux Destin D’amelie Poulain is the story of a fairly ordinary girl whom through finding a box full of objects decides to return it to it’s owner. When she sees the effect it has on the owner she decides to begin start helping others. The film is beautifully shot, the editing is very interesting and there are many amusing moments. Having watched the film at least five times I would recommend this as a film to see.  My essay on Amelie Poulain

3.4.1. Describe the role of greehouse gases in maintaining mean (average) global temperature.

- The gases in the atmosphere are natural, for example swamp gas or methane comes from swamps , cows etc as it has done for many years, unfortunatley there is more and more of this gas produced leading to global warming. These gases are what keeps the planet at a farily constant temperature since in space there is a very large diurnal range varying from freezing to extremely warm in such a way as to prevent life.

The Threats and Losses:

How much?

• Rainforests once covered 14 percent of the Earth’s land surface, now they cover 6 percent and experts estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years.
  • Globally 2.4 (1 hectare) acres of rainforest have been destroyed every second… it is the equivalent of two US football fields put together.
  • 149 acres (60 hectares) have been destroyed a minute.
  • 214,000 acres (86,000) per day: an area larger than NYC.
  • 78 million acres (31 million hectares per year: an area larger than Poland.
  • In Brazil an estimation of 5.4 million acres have been destroyed per year. (estimate averaged for period 1979-1990)

Why?

• Rainforests are being destroyed because the value of this land is perceived as only the value of it’s timber by short sighted governments, multi-national logging companies and land owners.
• Commercial logging => teak, mahogany, rosewood etc…. for furniture, building materials, charcoal for big businesses and big profits. Comaines: Texaco, Mitsubishi corp. Unocoal…
• Governments and their development of natural resources. control 805 of rainforests
• National debt=> World Bank
• Logging rainforest timber => $$large economic resource
• Composition of the soil, nutrients are locked up in the trees, less than 10% of the Amazonian soils are suitable for agriculture.

Consequences?

• The loss of tropical rainforests may lead to devastating world impact, rainforests are so biologically diverse
