Swiss Walks

Going Around in Circles

There is a hill that is steep. You often see people struggle up it, trying to beat their own records and in so doing get knackered by the top. Yesterday I went up such a hill and I felt low on energy so I didn’t bother to sprint. I just focued on getting up to the top. As I went I saw a group of runners running down towards me and I wanted to take a picture but I was too slow so I took a picture of my shadow as I cycled instead.

An Outdoor Workout

We are in the middle of a pandemic and governments see no urgent reason to end it by rational means like soft lockdowns. As a result of this we can pay 1100 CHF per year to go to an indoor gym, rebreathing the same air as other people, using the same machines, and the same washrooms or we can go for the cheaper 49 CHF per month option but run the same risk. I found Option three. Some Freetness machines were installed in Celigny by a children’s playground.

Farming In Switzerland

The Pandemic is alive and well and I am still walking around in circles. I would go for bigger, more interesting adventures but no one is publicising those events until after the fact. During a pandemic it helps to be misinformed, an alcoholic and a festival goer.

If you like real sports, like climbing, cycling, group hikes etc then you have to wait for months, or at this point, probably years, for the pandemic to end. Last year when the government made the mistake of opening too early you could believe they were silly. By making the same “mistake” again it starts to look like government policy. That leads to the obvious conclusion that at the current level of incompetence the pandemic will never end.

A Walk To The Chateau De Bossey

I walked to the Chateau De Bossey today. It’s an easy walk from one village to another and another after that.

A dirt road part of the walk.

A view of the Salève

A view of a field, the lakes with boats and the Alps in the background.

A Penguin Feeding a Chick in Switzerland

A penguin feeding a chick.

I would never expect to see a penguin feeding a chick in the middle of Switzerland in the middle of summer in Switzerland but I did. It’s just a wooden statue but that doesn’t make it any less unexpected. At first I thought it was just a block of wood to block people from taking a parking spot.

Two new books from the lending library.

Duck Tales

Ducks going out for afternoon tea on the Lac Léman. A mother duck and her ducklings.

Relaxing with Language Learning

Today I practiced vocal German and I found it relaxing compared to being with people in person. This pandemic sees the opportunities almost impossible.

Learning German with Babbel

When I played with voice recognition on the laptop it failed but when I use it on the phone it works fine. Practice speaking with a phone, when you’re in a quiet room.

Roman and Greek Mythology

I was looking for this type of information online and I found a few websites that provided such information. This one is useful because it is full of Greek and Roman mythological people so it serves as a good resource.

I found it at one of the phone boxes turned into a book library locations.

My intention is to skim through this book and slowly to get a good overview of the complex topic. I didn’t know that Musée was a name, not just a place.
