It’s very easy to fall into a routine. Our routines can revolve around cycling, hiking, work, scuba diving and more. It can also revolve around local walks and more.
This weekend I saw the chance to go for an overnight bivouac and I am not tempted. I saw the chance to cycle through vineyards and drink wine, and I am not tempted. I saw the opportunity to hike around Interlarken and I am not tempted.
I considered going for yet another hike yesterday. I didn’t, for two reasons. The first reason is that I had to commit on Wednesday night and I wasn’t ready to commit on Wednesday for Saturday. The second reason is that the group has a black list for people that don’t turn up with a valid reason. I much prefer the “If you’re late we won’t wait” school of punctuality.
I decided instead to join a Bike club Switzerland ride.
We are all familiar with it. We get a phone call. “I will be in Nyon in 20 minutes, do you want to meet”. We think, duck, that’s short notice. Do we take the bike? No, because we don’t want to leave it unattended. Do we take the car? No, because then we’d pay for the parking. Do we walk? No, because the meeting is in ten minutes and the walk will take 30 minutes.
As it is meant to be warmer over the next few days I went for a bike ride this morning, rather than in the afternoon. The rational is that by going for a morning bike ride traffic could have been less. The other reason is that it’s slightly cooler in the morning than in the afternoon.
Today wasn’t a warm day, but I felt like going for a bike ride, and I wanted to see if a different time of day made it more pleasant.
The Old Scooter and Winter Winter is coming, and with the arrival of winter comes the need to swap the tyres from summer to winter. In the process of getting the snow tyres out of the cave I pulled out my old scooter. The one that I used when I had a one month driving ban for speeding. I would not have been driving above the speed limit if I was not stuck behind someone driving below the speed limit.
