Milan Kundera

When studying literature for two years although I found that some of the books lacked in interest and relevance to the world within which I am living Milan Kundera proved to be one of the most interesting authors. He writes about the time around which the Czech republic was taken over by Socialist Russia and how this changed the lives of the people within this society.

The characters within his works are very interesting, one of my favourite being Thomas from The Unbearable Lightness of Being because of the way he goes from being a well known and respected doctor to being a simple window cleaner. What is more interesting though is the way in which his characters are so realistic, how much they wonder about things. There interplay is very interesting as can be noticed within some of the spaced out dreams of various characters.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kundera

The Unbearable Lightness of Being is the first of the books I read by Milan Kundera and I enjoyed the book because of the characters and how interesting they are. It is not often that I have encountered such books during my time as a student

The Book of Laughter and Forgetting

The book of laughter and Forgetting, Milan Kundera

It explores Czechoslovakia before and after the Russian invasion, seeing the effect it has had on people's lifes. It also explores sexuality, politics and there is the trademark method used by Kundera to describe the characters within their world
Laughable Loves

Laughable Loves, Milan Kundera

Exploring sexuality and how Love is at how mundane some parts of love are, how important certain parts are and how people are altered by it.

Slowness, Milan Kundera

A far lighter book to read exploring contemporary life in a lighter more relaxed fashion
Life is elsewhere

Life is Elsewhere, by Milan Kundera

A look at our youths, how the young age is more relaxed, full of posibilities, also of mis-conceptions

Immortality, By Milan Kundera

Immortality explores something far greater than ourselves such as the state and it's effect on us. As with his other books he takes us on a journey to explore who we are and how everything is eternal within human nature

Milan Kundera, Identity

Identity is typical of Milan Kundera novels with it's circular narration which repeats elements of the character's life to see just how important they were in forming who they have become.
