How Old Fashioned A Petrol Engine Seems

Every single time I go from driving an EV to driving a petrol car I am struck by old fashioned and smelly old cars are compared to new ones. In this context an old car is any car that has a petrol engine rather than an electric motor.

I had to play musical cars just now, and put the winter tires into the petrol car, to get them swapped so that I can drive in winter safely. In the process I had to move two cars around so that the petrol car is in front.

In the process I was struck by the stink left by the petrol car. It could also be related to a stinky motorbike that was started by someone else, and revved two or three times, before the person left. Upon reflection the stink might be from the motorbike.

Now, back to the petrol car, it’s amusing to see how much faster the electric motor reacts to input. With the car there’s a lag between pressing the accelerator and having enough power for the car to move. It feels wasteful to use a petrol car after driving an EV.

The EV is not mine, I just borrow it every so often, so that the car does not sit in a garage too long, without being used.

The biggest hurdle to enjoying an EV is not the car itself, but finding quick and convenient charging. Now that I have an RFID card and two charging solutions that work I have increased my EV related freedom, and range. When I do have my own EV I will be ready to take advantage of it, even without home charging.
