The Apple TV Vietnam War Documentary Series

Last night I watched the first episode of a documentary series on the Vietnam war, made by Apple TV. It’s eighteen hours of documentaries covering different aspects of the conflict. In the first episode they speak about boots on the ground and tunnel rats. Through the exploration of this topic we see some footage of traps being prepared and some footage from within the underground tunnels. In the footage we see an operating theatre in an undergorund room.

Historic Photos and Facebook

One of the reasons for which I keep using Facebook has to do with peoples’ sharing of old photos, paintings, sketches and more. I love to see photos of Nyon, Morges, Neuchatel Lausanne and other places through time. Recently I saw a photo of La Dole with a group of children skiing before the Doppler radar “boule” was installed as well as old photos of the Little Red Train as locals call it.

The Bad Habit of Daily Streaks

The US has a culture of streaking. I don’t mean running around naked at events. I mean of trying to do something daily for weeks, months or even years. As great as it can be, to develop consistent habits I believe that it can have a negative impact. For months I wanted to get my daily streak of Duolingo, and eventually I got mentally tired and gave up, after 270 or more days in a row.

Snowshoeing in Shallow Swiss Snow

When I went snowshoeing as a child I was photographed and it was used by the St Cergue Tourism board. I still have that poster in a room. Since then I went snowshoeing a few years ago and didn’t really enjoy it. The snowshoes didn’t feel comfortable. A few weeks ago I saw that people were planning a snowshoeing trip so I checked that they were set to my snowshoe size but skipped.

The Seasonal Desire Not to do Things

Tomorrow I could go for a drive and then walk on snow shoes to get to the top of a peak I have wanted to go up for a while. What slows down my desire to do this is the possible need to wear snowshoes. In theory they’re fine but ordinarily I find snowshoeing quite hard compared to just walking in snow. The advantage of this walk is that if it was cold and people have already walked the route, then the snow is compacted and walking in hiking shoes will be fine.

Two Hundred and Fifty Cameras to cover the Superbowl 59 (LIX)

Imagine covering an event with almost two hundred and fifty cameras.. What strikes me about this article is that although hundreds of cameras will be used there is no mention of how many of these cameras will be operated by human beings rather than automated, or locked off to get a specific shot of a specific moment. They also don’t mention how it will be vision mixed. If you have 250 cameras to watch, that’s a lot of attention to keep an eye on all the shot values.

Thoughts on the Midnight Library

In December I read The Midnight Library with ease. It is a lighter book than others and I could see parallels between Midnight Library and The Good Place. Specifically imagine a reality where you get to try reality after reality, after reality until you learn what you needed to learn, before the book or television series ends. In the Good Place and the Midnight Library one or more individuals have the opportunity to try life A before trying life B before trying life C, over and over again.

Wordle and Word Tips

Recently I started playing Wordle again and I have a win streak of thirty four days. Now that I have written this down I will lose it within a day or two, for being too confident. Some people have been playing for over 1000 days and I would assume that within two or three guesses they will get the right word. I am not that fast. I followed some programming courses on Linkedin Learning, Udemy and one or two other places so as I played wordle I thought “what if I use a tool to help me eliminate words.

Enjoying the Fediverse

At the moment I feel myself drifting away from Facebook because although I like seeing the hikes that people share and the potential groups I could join I do not like the leadership of that site. I also muted the two whatsapp groups that I follow from GoSocial because I want to go back to not using Whatsapp again, because it also belongs to Facebook. Finally although I liked the Threads community I feel myself drifting from that too, because I’m tired of seeing so much junk in my timeline.

Electricity Maps and HomeAssistant

The building I live in has solar panels on the roof and a heat pump. This allows it to be more energy efficient than other buildings. It also has thick insulation on the walls and more. Recently I have been playing with Homeassistant and electricity Maps. Electricity Maps is a real time representation of energy flows showing which countries are using green energy as well as how much of that energy is currently green.
