I know that driving to the house where I charge the electric vehicle will take about 20 percent. I also know that driving to the shops will take less than one percent per drive. This means that if I had an electric car, and I had a plug at home, rather than a climb up the Jura, I would need to charge every week or two, rather than almost every time I drive the car.
This morning I decided to go for a benchmark run for a new Garmin training plan. After I ran the required 5 minutes and four minutes of walking I continued with my walk. I had a route that I wanted to walk but because I saw people, and dogs on the paths that I was thinking of walking down I took a bigger loop once, then again, and then a third time. In the end I walked 12,000 steps this morning. I walked from Nyon to Cheserex to Borex to Arnex and back towards Nyon.
I was using Day One to blog but I found the process slow and clunky. I then switched to writing blog posts with VIM and that sped me up by a lot. I then switched to Hugo and VIM. Now I use VS Code with Front Matter to generate the pages, and then wrote plenty of posts using VIM. Now I’m still using FrontMatter CMS but with VS Code without touching VIM.
For a while I had been thinking of getting a device to play audible books that was not an iphone. The reason for this is simple. A portable MP3 player costs the same, or less than an iphone battery, and can play audio books, or music for 17-19hrs in a row, if you want to listen for that many hours in a row.
With podcasts you want a device that can sync while you’re walking and listening. With books the experience is different. At most you may need to sync 12 times a year, or 24 times a year, depending on which Audible contract you have.
I keep seeing articles and posts about how WordPress is on the Fediverse now via the plugin. This is half true. You can write blog posts and they will appear on the Fediverse. What they fail to mention is that those blog posts can have comments, on the Fediverse, but not on WordPress. If you see a post, and you comment once, then that comment cannot be answered via wordpress, but it can’t be interacted with via Wordpress. To interact with an interaction on Wordpress you would need to create an account that has two way synching.
I am wearing a t-shirt today. I am wearing a t-shirt almost every day. I feel no need for fleeces or sweaters. The reason for this is simple. The temperature, today, for example. is ten degrees hotter than it should be. It’s twenty five degrees and the normal temperature is fifteen degrees.
We’re having a warm summer’s day in Octobre. This should last three more days. This has been a long and comfortable summer.
I ordered something online two days ago. I received a package today and I was surprised by how heavy it was. I opened the package. It contained over a hundred francs of things I did not order.
It’s frustrating not to get what I ordered.
I found myself in a quandary. Do I report the mistake, or do I keep silent about it? Of course morality is how you behave when no one is looking, so I reported the mistake. Now I wait to see what they tell me to do. Part of me is thinking that I should offer to review these products, as blog posts, mentioning the company that made the mistake, and benefiting from it.
Today is an unusual day. Originally I had planed to walk over one thousand meters up the Jura, before realising that I had too little sleep, so I decided to sleep a little more, do laundry, write a blog post and then eat lunch.
After lunch I didn’t feel like going for a walk, still. That’s highly unusual for me. I don’t know whether it’s because I am tired from a mediocre night of sleep or whether it’s because of the heat that hasn’t left yet. It’s the 9th of September and it’s still 29 to 30°c. I feel slightly under the weather so I’m skipping the walk.
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Fediverse instances want you to pay them to use their services. This could be fantastic. It isn’t, for one simple reason. We are helping someone else grow their projects enough for them, eventually to get IPOs and sell off the company, and our contribution to the highest bidder for them to profit.
I liked Zwift and I liked Strava, until they raised venture funds, getting millions, on top of what we were already paying for the service. When Strava got VC funding I stopped my subscription because shareholders now control the company, not the company, and shareholders have no vested interest in users, as demonstrated by Twitter being sold to Musk.

Rishi Sunak plans to restrict the installation of solar panels on swathes of English farmland, which climate campaigners say will raise bills and put the UK’s energy security at risk.
Solar panels, if placed high enough can generate energy whilst at the same time providing shade for grazing sheep and cows beneath them. If you look at the surface of barns and other farm buildings it makes sense to replace the old roof, especially if it’s not beautiful patterned tiles, with solar panels. There is a barn near Ikea, in Aubonne that is covered entirely in solar panels. This is probably generating quite a bit of power for the local village.
