Today I logged into Infomaniak to experiment with another self-hosted solution when I noticed that Suite has been re-branded to myKsuite and in the process I noticed that I have 6TB of cloud storage rather than the 2 or three terabytes of storage I thought I had before. That’s a fantastic deal.
With iCloud I would spend 120 CHF for 2 terabytes and with Google One I would spend 100 CHF for two terabytes. With MyKsuite I could now choose between one terabyte for 19 CHF per year, or 6 terabytes for 64 CHF per month at today’s prices. This undercuts Apple’s 3 CHF per month for 200 gigabytes by a wide margin.
For a time you could import from Google Drive, Facebook and iCloud to Kdrive but that functionality seems to have been removed which is a shame. It was useful to be able to migrate data from one service to another without having to download locally, before re-uploading.
iCloud and Google Photos have a serious flaw. They trap your photos and videos within their app, without making it easy to download your own content. This means that the more you upload, the more impossible it becomes to retrieve your data.
And finally, I bring this up because it is the first provider to offer so much storage at such an affordable price. I like Ksuite because it allows us to upload photos and other content, sync folders from a computer, and then download them with ease.
With iCloud and Photos you need to wait weeks or months to download photos. With Google Photos you need to request an export of your photos, and then download them. With Suite you download the app. Point to the remote folder, and the remote folder, and the rest is automatic. There is no lock in.
