Children and an Electric Scooter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When I got the electric scooter I was curious about whether it could be used when looking after children while they ride their bikes and the answer is “yes”. You can stop reading now.

Yesterday I was near the Lac de Divonne and since the children wanted to race it was a good opportunity to see whether I was faster than them on their bikes.

Due to the electric scooter being limited to 20 kilometres per hour I thought that it might be too slow. In fact it’s too fast, so you can modulate looking after children while riding an electric scooter. They can ride to their limit and you can ride beside them, without having to run to keep up.

The alternative could either that you run beside the children and get a good cardio workout or that you ride a bike beside them. The drawback to the bike is that it can be big and bulky, so the e-scooter might be more convenient.

The drawback to running is that you may need to either run, or sprint. If they’re confident then you might definitely need to sprint.

## Slower Speeds

I found that if you go at just a little faster than walking speed the scooter will struggle. It will judder as the engine kicks in and stops regularly due to the speed being too low. The difference with e-scooters is that the wheels are big, so the platform is higher from the ground. If you use it as a normal scooter it may be more tiring, due to weight, and a different style of pushing motion.

## And Finally

With the electric scooter children have the freedom to go at their speed of choice and you can easily keep up with them, so you get to play with them rather than walk a certain distance behind them, struggling to keep up. It works as well as I expected.
