Yesterday I tested the Migrol Car Charging at Portes de Nyon. It’s an underground charging station that is accessible when the shopping centre is open. It has the double advantage of being close to the shops, but also of the centre oof Nyon, if you’re ready to walk for an hour or two and explore the time.
There is another charger by the same company in La Combe but La Combe is in the town, so you’re adding to traffic. By using Portes De Nyon you are parking on the outskirts and then walking into town.
No Connection Fee
This charger has no connection fee so you spend for what you use. I charged from around twenty eight percent to one hundred percent and it cost about 14 CHF for 29 kW/h. This is in line with what I’d expect from the fast chargers after 20 or more minutes but the charge took three hours and six minutes.
The test was a success. For 14 CHF I charged 29.6 kW/h, in theory. As I do these tests my goal is specific. I want to assure that charging stations work, for a start, but also see how expensive they are, when charging to 100 percent.
From now on, after these tests I should experiment with setting the car to charge to 80 percent, rather than a hundred percent. The last twenty percent are excellent if you’re driving as far as possible, but if you’re driving and require 30 percent for a trip then that final twenty percent of charge is a waste of time, and money.
Bring your Own Cable
With some charging stations the cable is provided, but in this situation you need to use your own. It’s just like the chargers at Coop minus the connection fee. It makes sense to keep that cable in the car.
And Finally
At Signy Centre there is a 2 CHF connection fee and there are six or more charging points so I don’t feel bad about blocking a charger for an extended period of time. Porte de Nyon has just two chargers so, as there is a connection fee, I would recommend top up charges, rather than full charges. I would also recommend charging out of peak hours, to avoid having to queue or wait for others to finish.
