The Romans created a powerful civilisation which became overdependent on the slaves who did most of the work so that the Romans could rest and have entertainment. This was one of the causes of their demise as they had more holidays than working days. This meant that all they cared about was the right to "panem et circenses" entertainment and bread. Someone said "if the slaves wore different clothes than their masters, then they would see that the slaves outnumber them". |
