I would definitely have preferred not to be in this type of situation. Can you imagine how physically demanding this work would have been?
Speed Riding Mont Blanc from Didier Lafond on Vimeo.
Speed flying is a combination of parapente and skiing. You take off from the top with the parapente and ski part of the way and fly for the rest of the way. This is an extreme sport but it provides some great images. This is a sport I edited footage from a number of times and it captures the imagination.
An interesting look back in to the past. I remember seeing this conflict on television. I know people who covered the story and I’ve heard about how a colleague gave one person a gameboy when he left Sarajevo. That person called and asked about the individual and that’s how I knew of a personal story. One or two segments in this video show the tape to tape editing process. I learned how to edit this way but by the time I worked as an editor everything had moved to non linear editing systems.
Passion Pit - “Cry Like A Ghost from DANIELS on Vimeo.
Out of curiosity I started watching it. I like how movements are used to hide cuts from one location to another and it’s all part of one single “dance”.
An interesting documentary looking at the life of the Amish. We don’t often get this perspective of people who are not used to mobile phones, the world wide web and other things.
An interview with the founder of Gopro. There are some interesting and amusing moments. Fun to see how so little capital could build something that would grow to become so popular over a number of years.
No need for a camera operator when filming something like this. Self shot works as well. Not as deceptive as yesterday’s video.
Biting Elbows - ‘Bad Motherfucker’ (Insane Office Escape 2) from Ilya Naishuller on Vimeo.
A fun first person film that stands out from the rest.
Vimeo On Demand: Sell your work, your way from Vimeo Staff on Vimeo.
Equipment is going down in price and information on how to produce good quality content is spreading. As a result of both these trends people like Vimeo and youtube can take advantage of the shift. Applying to work for mainstream media is no longer a must. What you do need to find are the right people with the right motivation to work alongside you.
TAKE MY PICTURE from GARAGE Magazine on Vimeo.
This short feature would benefit from interviews with the photographers rather than commentators commenting. How do the photographers think about their craft. How do those who are photographed view what is taking place. Why do they do it.
