On having a dedicated machine used for nothing but video editing.

My editing machine has a minimum of things installed on it. Final Cut Pro and related software, nothing else. The point is that when I am editing I am dedicated to that single task. I take breaks when it is rendering or when I need time to digest the edit so far. When I was editing over a decade ago I would mark 10 in and out points and then go and drink some ice tea while the machine assembled the footage.

The 2013 CERN Tweetup

On the 27th of September CERN invited twelve Social media users to a tweetup. I was among those twelve. We had the rare opportunity to go down and see the tunnels where the LHC carries out it’s experiements. We met with World Wide Web pioneers and we got to listen to interesting experimental and theoretical scientists. This weekend anyone in the area can go to CERN and speak with the scientists in person and see the tools being used for the experiments we have heard so much about over the years.

Behind the Scenes: Record

Behind the Scenes: Record from The Lincoln Motor Company on Vimeo. I love the idea of putting a small camera on an object and filming event from that perspective. The idea of putting a gopro on a record is an interesting one. With the size of technology today you’d expect this to be simple to do. I was disappointed to see that what they did for this video clip was to build a camera rig for a Red Epic and get the camera to spin.

V-315 Wreck dive

V 315 (Poland 2013) from Daniel Pastwa on Vimeo. A better produced diving video than usual.

Martyn Ashton - Road Bike Party

A Film by Robin Kitchin Produced by Ashton Bikes These bikes are used to cycle over three thousand kilometres during the Tour de France and here it’s being used for what mountain bikes are usually used for. At least it’s a light bike. To see the out-takes.

Red Epic Dragon test footage

RED EPIC DRAGON - IT’S THE REAL DEAL ! from Mark Toia on Vimeo. Nice dynamic range, nice variety of test subjects. “The single one sentence i can say that can sum up everything is this.. It’s the first camera ever that I have used that captures exactly what I see with my own eye. Never have I seen this before. !“ Mark Toia

Waves and lighthouses.

Waves crashing against lighthouses can be impressive and I remember seeing an interview with a lighthouse from the series of images below. The idea of seeing the individual who is photographed and hearing things from his perspective are interesting. When I find that video I will link to it.
